The Violetnews System from Kodak, an entry level violet digital plate making system for small newspapers is said to allow companies to change to computer to plate (CTP) operation.

It was shown for the first time this week at the Ifra Expo event in Vienna (Austria)and it is available in EAMER, Latin America and Asia Pacific The Violetnews System features Kodak's new Violetnews Platesetter, a semi-automatic device that is claimed to be capable of imaging 60 plates per hour, together with the company's Violetnews Digital Plates, that are said to provide fast imaging and processing, as well as resilient press performance

Kodak added that the system also includes a light duty plate processor in a compact size and the Prinergy Evo PDF workflow system.

Marc Delorme, Kodak's product manager for newspaper CTP products, said: "The Violetnews System combines the benefits of CTP, such as higher productivity and lower costs, with the efficiency of working with a single provider to make the transition from film to CTP production.

Violetnews expands our portfolio for addressing all segments in the newspaper market.

Now even the smallest newspapers, which may have been unable to justify the capital expense of CTP from other vendors, can afford to go digital." H Jack Knadjian, Kodak's vice president for the publishing market, added: "We believe that thermal and visible light systems have a place in the newspaper market.

Now, with the Violetnews we offer both technologies and can provide a complete system for all newspaper segments - small, medium and large.".
