UK commercial printer, Printhaus, ordered a new Kodak Magnus 800 Quantum platesetter at Drupa 2008, together with a Kodak Prinergy workflow system, version 4.0.

The Prinergy system will connect to Kodak's Insite pre-press portal system to improve web communications and collaboration with customers The company said that it will achieve improved productivity, automation and better imaging performance following the installation and commissioning of the new equipment

Printhaus will also be deploying Kodak's Multi-Cassette Unit, which is said to hold up to 500 plates at a time.

The company is looking forward to from this new installation.

The Northampton printer provides everything from creative concepts to direct mail and fulfilment, the latest investments are the next step in a long partnership with Kodak.

Printhaus was the site of the first UK commercial installation of the Prinergy system in 2000 and that equipment has been making plates on Kodak platesetters ever since.

Kelly Harris, the managing director of Printhaus, commented: "We promise our customers that we'll stay ahead of the technology curve.

These investments will further improve our productivity and help us meet even tighter turn-around times.

The new Prinergy system with connectivity to Insite software will keep us keep moving with our customers' requirements to do more business over the internet.

We'll be able to link with our existing management information system, so we expect to automate many processes." Kodak said that its Magnus 800 Quantum platesetter employs a new thermal head that generates double the laser power of earlier Magnus machines.

The new thermal head not only increases the speed of plate production, but also provides broader imaging latitude and higher stability in case of plate sensitivity variations, claimed the company.

The company added that its platesetters utilise its Squarespot imaging technology to minimise the impact of routine pre-press variations and to provide stable and reliable plates that stay within tight print manufacturing tolerances.

The Magnus 800 Quantum is claimed to be able to produce up to 60 eight-up plates per hour and uses Kodak's Staccato screening for colour reproduction.

Kelly Harris added: "We've got a long history with Kodak, so we're looking forward to the reliability and consistency of Kodak service that we know comes with these investments.".
