K C Tompkin Printing Services has bought a Kodak Nexpress 2100 digital production colour press.

K C Tompkin produces a wide range of printed collateral, including posters, leaflets and brochures for well-known brands and companies.

Richard Tompkin, managing director, wanted to compete in a wider market, so he purchased a Kodak Nexpress 2100 to free up the company's litho presses - this would allow longer runs and reduce overheads.

Tompkin said: 'It produces output that is far better than our current small digital engines can achieve.

'The finished result is more comparable to the quality of litho than anything else I've ever seen.

'In addition, the operator-replaceable components mean that I can keep it going without calling an engineer out if a part needs to be changed.' He also purchased an imaging unit so that the company can print spot colours, watermarking and protective coating.

With the Nexpress glossing unit, Tompkin and his team added the ability to produce high-impact glossing effects.

The printing house had no problems with integrating its Nexpress press with existing pre-press workflow and finishing equipment.

Confidence among customers in digital technology has encouraged K C Tompkin to use its press for jobs where colour is critical.

'We printed labels for a company with very exacting guidelines on the corporate colour, so they were really delighted when they saw the precision and consistency of colour reproduction,' Tompkin said.

'The Nexpress press produced these labels better than we would have been able to do on a litho press.'.
