"In the UK, the print management market has never been as segmented as the United States where small and large print management firms have always competed head to head for the bigger accounts," he remarked.
Colin Davies has been a member of the DMIA for 32 years and regularly attends its print solutions conference and expo.
This year, the event drew more than 1,500 delegates and 370 exhibitors to the Chicago venue.
In the US, the market for forms and document printing is estimated to be worth around $13.7 billion a year.
"Since becoming a member, the effects of globalisation on the industry have become very apparent.
When I first started going to the conference in the early 1970s I would come back with a 100 new ideas because the US was so ahead of us in methodology.
Now, technology and new systems spread almost instantly.
However, the DMIA conference never ceases to inspire and I always get back to the office re-invigorated by the energy and drive of our American colleagues," he said.
Established in 1946, the DMIA serves organisations in the business printing supply chain and has over 1,400 corporate members.
Based in Shirley, Solihull (UK), Etrinsic was recently ranked among the UK's top 10 print management companies and was a winner in the 2003 Birmingham Post Business Awards.
The company specialises in web-based print management systems including on-line ordering and information reporting.
