Advice on producing what is described as 'cleaner' packaging design is being offered by Envirowise, which is tro stage an online seminar under its resource efficiency programme.
The live product and packaging design webcast on October 11, according to Envirowise will allow companies to access free advice on sustainable design techniques and help them identify potential changes to packaging specifications, which could generate cost savings The first of its kind for Envirowise, the webinar will feature presentations by expert advisors, including an update on current and future legislation, said the organisation

Printers Must Treat Non-Hazardous Waste
Non-hazardous waste will have to be treated before it is disposed in landfill sites in the UK after the end of October, according to the UK government's sustainable business organisation Envirowise.
Envirowise added that an interactive packaging design workshop, which can be downloaded after the event, will demonstrate how to eliminate excess packaging throughout the life-cycle, through a practical product demonstration.
There will also be a question and answer forum and a seminar outlining re-design issues to enhance product design.
Jenni Rosser, cleaner design specialist for Envirowise, commented: "The webinar is designed to help businesses grasp the environmental and commercial opportunities associated with cleaner design.
Many businesses are now facing rising recovery targets under legislation governing packaging waste, as well as increased pressure from the consumer to reduce excess packaging from many popular products." She added: "Whilst many companies have already invested in recovering and recycling existing packaging, priority must now be given to reducing resource use at the design stage itself.
Our experience has shown that this approach can often generate long-term efficiencies and increased profits, which are advantages that businesses simply cannot afford to ignore." The cleaner design webinar will be hosted via the Envirowise website on October 11, beginning at 11.30am.
