Newspaper Cuts Manual Work With Stack System
The UK's first Jobstack compensating stacker has reduced the amount of manual intervention in operations at Cambridge Newspapers.
Jobstacker, supplied by WRH Marketing, replaced an older stacking system and it has been connected to a four-station Muller Martini saddle stitcher.
The Jobstack 2075 series can be used with gatherer-stitchers, perfect binders, or inserting machines and is available in two versions.
The Jobstack 20 in use at Cambridge Newspapers is claimed to handle 20,000 copies per hour (cph) of products, ranging from 1mm to 32mm.
Copies can be from 102mm x 152mm up to 321mm x 470mm in size, whilst the bundle height can be up to 330mm.
Ejection of bundles can be to either right or left.
The Jobstack 75 can handle up to 75,000cph and is designed for newspaper and commercial applications.
Both units are robust, quick to change over and provide easy access, said WRM Marketing.
Cambridge Newspapers' maliroom manager, Charlotte Barham, explained: "We have an excellent working relationship with WRH Marketing UK, which has provided us with good after-sales service for several years.
When we heard about the new Jobstack unit, it seemed as if it would be the perfect replacement for our ageing stacker.
Jobstack was delivered one morning and was in full production by lunchtime.
It is very easy to operate and since its installation we have used it on supplements ranging from a 16-page to a 146-page tabloid and also on quarter fold work ranging from 16-pages to 68-pages." She continued: "Individual copies are delivered automatically in shingle format from the three-knife trimmer in to the Jobstack unit, which produces neat bundles that do not need knocking up, a task that was always necessary when using the previous stacker.
The Jobstack unit allows you to set the number of copies per bundle.
At the moment we hand strap bundles, but at the end of May we are taking delivery of a Jobstrap system from WRH Marketing and this will make strapping bundles a semi-automatic process." Barham added that Jobstack has been totally reliable since its installation, presenting the company with no problems.
Cambridge Newspapers is now considering using other Jobfolio products within its mailroom.
