H Howard Flint II has assumed the position of non-executive chairman of the board of directors.

He had served as both chairman and chief executive officer since 1992.

Dave Frescoln, president of the organisation since 1992, has been elected vice chairman and chief executive officer of the global company, while chief operating officer Linda Welty has been named to the added role of president.

David B Flint will continue in his position of executive vice president of the family-owned company.

The changes will ensure a smooth transition at the top of the organisation said Howard Flint.

"I will continue to have an active role in setting the direction of the company and will support the new leadership team in whatever way I can as they take on the challenges of a changing industry," he added.

Founded in Detroit in 1920 by H Howard Flint's grandfather, Flint Ink is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan (USA).

The company has 4,400 employees and operates in more than 100 locations worldwide.

Sales in 2004 topped US$1.47 billion.
