Flint Group said it is raising its prices for heatset and publication gravure inks considerably across Europe with immediate effect, or as existing contracts permit.

The price adjustments, according to the company, are necessary to address high energy, raw material and logistic costs.

Wolfgang Blumschein, vice president and general manager of Flint Group Europe Publication Division, said: "Over the last months we received further raw material price increases from our supply base, with some up by 15 per cent.

The demand for energy and chemical raw materials in other parts of the world remain high and is tightening the supply of basic chemicals used by the printing ink industry, including Flint Group." And he added: "Even the slight decrease for crude oil in recent weeks has not brought any alleviation as the cost basis has more than doubled since 2003.

These factors contribute to our need to raise our prices and offset the continuing escalation of raw materials, energy and freight costs." Flint Group said its representatives will be contacting all customers in the coming weeks to discuss the price increases in detail.
