Fuji Photo Film has opened its new $100 million manufacturing facility for the production of digital CTP pre-sensitised printing plates.

The company's North American manufacturing and research complex in Greenwood, South Carolina is one of the its four global plate production hubs.

Similar activity is taking place at Fujifilm's European plate manufacturing operation at Tilburg (Holland), which is currently undergoing a major investment to enable the additional production of photopolymer CTP plates.

The developments at Greenwood and Tilburg are part of a bigger worldwide investment in to plate production by the company.

Fuji Photo Film has recently spent over 200 million Euros on plate production worldwide.

The company began manufacturing in South Carolina in 1988, when the it announced the construction of its first US factory for the production of pre-sensitised plates.

The Greenwood complex comprises seven high technology manufacturing plants, the Greenwood Research Laboratories, and the largest Fujifilm distribution centre in the world.

The 1,500 staff employed at the 500-acre complex currently manufacture digital and conventional pre-sensitised plates and film for the graphic arts market, 35mm colour film and photographic paper.
