Viscosity Units Maintain Re-Moist Adhesive Quality

A Fullbrook Systems product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team May 7, 2007

To maintain quality when applying water based re-moist adhesives commercial printers have installed Brookfield Viscosel units to control and maintain the viscosity.

The Viscosel units were chosen as the result of technical advice given by viscometer supplier Fullbrook Systems.

Users of the viscosity control system have commented that machines are being run faster with less stoppages for cleaning and that the results are consistent, no matter what the length of run, said Fullbrook Systems.

The viscometers had also improved the mileage figures obtained from the adhesive.

Further advantages of the viscometers were their ease of use, and swift clean-up at the end of a production run, added the company.

Although the adhesives used are inherently stable, the point of application is located close to the drying ovens and viscosity variation can be experienced.

That variation, when left unchecked, gives rise to adhesive build-up on the application roller, chillers, angle bars and folding ploughs.

Conversely, if over-diluted, the adhesive can penetrate the paper, or is too thinly applied to give satisfactory end-use results.
