The needs and requirements of the converter members of FINAT are the key drivers for what is described as new look of this year's annual congress in Baveno (Italy) from June 4-6.

The needs and requirements of the converter members of FINAT are the key drivers for what is described as new look of this year's annual congress in Baveno (Italy) from June 4-6 Held jointly with GIPEA, Italy's national label association, the congress programme has been structured to inspire delegates from all levels of FINAT membership with success stories from many parts of the global labelling community and to provide opportunities for benchmarking delegates' own management and company performance against those of similar companies said FINAT

Following an overall industry update, conference sessions will look at innovation and trends (including RFID) and will move on to converter excellence - in marketing fields such as product diversification, niche marketing in pharmaceuticals, digital print and in-mould labelling and in business macros such as generation change, quality assurance, the 'lean transformation' and waste management.

Running concurrently with the conference programme will be a tabletop exhibition, which provides converters with an opportunity to meet and discuss with leading suppliers to the industry.

The conference will also feature the presentation to the winning converter companies in the FINAT International Label Competition - this year celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Jules Lejeune explained that the new congress structure will just be a beginning.

Jules Lejeune, FINAT's managing director said: "We are redefining all FINAT's activities to provide enhanced member benefits for the converter base - after all, they are the people at the sharp end of our business and we need to support them in maintaining a strong, healthy labelling industry across the globe.

We hope that converters from all corners of the globe will take the opportunity to join us in Baveno this year - and for this year only, we would like to invite non- member converters to join us and sample the benefits of FINAT membership for themselves.

We want to attract as many converters to this congress as possible, so that we can build a well-defined platform for meeting their needs in the future through FINAT." As the international trade association promoting the interests of self-adhesive labelling and related disciplines, FINAT's membership spans all levels of the value chain, from raw material supplier to label converter said the organisation.

"In an industry that is experiencing intense innovation in terms of machinery and materials, it is important to take account of the enormous contribution made by the label converters.

After all, their skills and imagination translate new tools and substrates in to the finished products the end user requires," commented Lejeune.

The challenging business environment today in the global packaging industry has an impact on narrow-web converters in a number of ways, he added.

Multinational brand manufacturers and retailers are using their purchasing power to drive continuous innovation, preferably without added cost and are making challenging service demands of their label suppliers.

"With the 2005 FINAT Congress we want to demonstrate the many directions in which label converters today are achieving success through excellence and this is the congress's theme," said Lejeune.
