A UK Environment Agency spokesman has reported that 77 per cent of emergency spill kits on industrial sites are not complete.

In addition, those kits would not provide the equipment to deal with the spill for which they are intended.

Furthermore, The Environment Agency advocates that spill kits should be regularly audited and replenished.

Fosse Liquitrol, the Leicestershire (UK) provider of spill response and spill containment products, which also provides a range of services to assist companies prevent and cope with liquid spills, said that there are a number of steps printers and other companies in the industry can take to ensure they can adequately respond to spillages.

One way to highlight if a wheelie bin spill kit has been raided is to fit an audit cover and fix tamper proof tape over the audit cover on to the wheelie bin.

For a nominal cost companies will be able to see whether spill kits have been raided, said Fosse Liquitrol.

In addition, if a spill kit needs refilling, the cost of a complete replacement, including a container, might not be necessary, as the contents just need refilling, added the company.

According to Fosse Liquitrol, what it believes to be the most complete range of spill kit refills on the markets, has been launched by Spill Direct.
