Flint-Schmidt GmbH and Co KG today introduced its newest ink systems for European sheetfed printing applications at Drupa 2004

Duracure is among the new products being presented to European printers by Flint-Schmidt.

The company is also featuring the improved Arrowstar series, Matrixcure and Gemini Hybrid UV ink systems.

Duracure UV Inks are now available to European commercial and package printers.

They are formulated to provide excellent press performance and adhere to a variety of substrates - including non-porous substrates such as plastics, films, laminated boards and foils - used in sheetfed commercial and package printing applications, claimed Flint-Schmidt.

They are said to exhibit excellent scuff resistance and high colour strength and are claimed to be ideal for use on pre-formed cups and tubs, POP displays, signage, labels, phone cards and customer loyalty and membership cards.

The new range is designed to provide superior transfer, dot fidelity and high-speed press stability, said the company.

The company said enhanced formulations of the Arrowstar ink series are available for folding carton printers, commercial printers and converters.

The improved Arrowstar line consists of 10 application-specific sheetfed offset ink formulae available in process and Pantone base systems.

Improvements are said to include improved rub resistance, ink transfer, gloss and minimum dot gain.

The varnishes used in the Arrowstar family have been designed to deliver superior colour strength and dot sharpness at higher densities, according to Flint-Schmidt.

They are all available as process sets and also as spot colours and special blacks.

The Arrowstar vegetable oil-based inks have Swan Label approval in Scandinavia, and comply with environmental requirements in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland, added the company.

The Matrixcure ink range is said to help web and sheetfed printers improve productivity with shortened turn-around time and increased pressroom efficiency.

Based on proprietary resin and photo initiator chemistry, which create impenetrable bonds, the inks are said to offer improved grey balance, density control, and enhanced ink and water balance for faster make-readies and easier run ability.

The inks are claimed to be suitable for high-speed UV sheetfed and web printing, while Matrixcure-LT has a low-tack formulation suitable for lightweight papers and substrates with poor surface strength.

They are available in process and Pantone colours and UV coatable colours.

The Gemini Ink range is said by Flint-Schmidt to combine conventional offset ink and UV curable ink technology.

The two-in-one system offers printers the high level of gloss and durability of UV ink, along with the dependable printing and easy clean up of a traditional sheetfed offset ink.

Gemini is available in four-colour and Hexachrome process sets, and Pantone colour blends.

"To stay competitive, European printers require products that meet their challenging production needs," said Doug Aldred, vice president of Flint-Schmidt Sheetfed Division.

"Our sheetfed inks are engineered with high-performance characteristics that meet specific end-use requirements.

These products will give printers a broader range of capabilities, improve productivity, and enhance sheetfed press performance," he added.
