Galloways, a commercial and packaging printer based in Poynton, Cheshire (UK) has seen its commercial work increase by 50 per cent since installing a complete Fujifilm violet CTP and workflow system.
The package comprises a Luxel V-9600 CTP B1 violet platesetter, Fuji Open Workflow, Brillia LP-NV plates, Fuji Ramproof with ICC and a Fujifilm Double Proof unit.
Following the move to CTP, Galloways said it has become a much more commercial enterprise, enabling it to offer new services and take on more varied work.
The company is also using Brillia LP-NV plates, which are said not to require baking, on the UV press it supports.
That means Galloways does not have to order or source other plates from different suppliers.
David Robson, the production director at Galloways, commented: "Our Fuji equipment has enabled us to penetrate the commercial market and we've been very impressed with the whole CTP system, especially the benefits Fuji Open Workflow has brought.
The trapping is very accurate, the pre-flighting is excellent and we are able to make our edits to one page without having to re-RIP whole files.
We chose Fujifilm Graphic Systems as our supplier because we wanted to keep our electronics and engine in the same ownership and Fujifilm has provided a cost-effective system to meet our needs." Galloways has also installed a Fujifilm Double Proof unit, which has enabled it to meet the demand from its customers for double-sided proofs.
The B1 proofer can produce a multi page, backed-up, trimmed and stitched brochure, which can be given to customers before a final job is output.
Robson continued: "Thanks to the Double Proof unit, customers can check the colour and content of the proof, as well as read through it page by page and check the layout.
Being able to offer our customers an exact replica of a printed brochure is great - they can see and feel exactly how the brochure will look and having a visual hard proof is very reassuring.
Proofing is an important part of our business and the installation of our Double Proof unit has been an asset." Using Open Workflow, Fujifilm said that Galloways has calibrated its proofers so that they are ICC compatible with its B1 and B2 Heidelberg presses and is driving all its devices through Fuji Open Workflow.
Galloways is now regularly outputting several hundred proof pages a day.
