Fujifilm has installed a Luxel Vx-9600 CTP and Fuji Open Workflow at Essex (UK) commercial printers, Tawny Press.

Fujifilm has installed a Luxel Vx-9600 CTP and Fuji Open Workflow at Essex (UK) commercial printers, Tawny Press.

The complete B1 violet CTP system was chosen for its cost effectiveness in producing high quality plates and is part of continuing improvements the company is making to improve production and customer service.

The new violet system replaces a B2 film imagesetter and Tawny Press has noticed significant time-savings since its installation.

The company was also a previous user of Fujifilm's conventional VPS-E plate and is now using Fujifilm's violet Brillia LP-NV plate.

Gary Cheverall, the managing director of Tawny Press, commented: "We wanted a manual loading B1 system with an on-line processor.

We looked at the thermal offerings on the market, however violet CTP seemed a much more cost-effective solution, especially in terms of laser replacement.

Fujifilm listened to what we required and supplied exactly what we wanted.

We are now producing plates in a third of the time it took before." Together, Brillia LP-NV plates and the Fujifilm Luxel Vx-9600 CTP provide a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective system, which was very important for Tawny Press.

The company has been able to reduce the frequency of downtime, meaning continuous production can be achieved for a longer period of time.

Tawny Press is also using Fuji Open Workflow to prepare its files before sending to the CTP device.

The company has been benefiting from its many features, including proofing, trapping and Reliable Digital Master functionality.

Jason Davies, Tawny's pre-press manager with responsibility for overseeing and running the Fuji Open Workflow commented: "The workflow checks everything on screen and we don't have to run a PDF for each job anymore.

The automatic trapping feature in Fuji Open Workflow is saving between 20 to 30 minutes on each job, which is fairly significant, and the software's Reliable Digital Master function provides increased reliability for our clients, especially when we output to our proofer.

Overall, as well as great time savings, we have also seen much more accuracy in the plates we produce - we have no problems with spots and every set of Brillia LP-NV plates we output has been perfect.".
