Processless Plate Makes Print Operations Cleaner

Family-run Falkland Press is the latest company to benefit from Fujifilm's Brillia HD Pro-T processless printing plate.
As part of its expansion plans, Falkland Press installed a Heidelberg six-colour Speedmaster SM74 press in December to run alongside its existing two-colour Speedmaster SM52 and a Screen Platerite 4300 platesetter running the Pro-T plate.
Andy Lancaster, managing director of Falkland Press, said: "We'd been a user of Fuji's conventional plates for around four years when we decided to make the transition to CTP.
Although we considered other processless plates, the decision to stay with Fuji was a fairly simple one.
We'd always been happy with its conventional plates and service and had heard only good reports about the Pro-T plate." He added: "The benefits of going down the processless route have been immediate.
Our whole operation is now so much cleaner, giving us a much better environment to work in.
We were regularly having to dispose of 200 litres of waste chemicals and now we have nothing to get rid of.
The environmental impact of processless is also important to us and will clearly demonstrate to our customers that Falkland Press is taking its environmental responsibilities very seriously.
This is becoming an increasingly important issue for our clients." Fuji's Brillia HD Pro-T is said to be a true processless plate in that it needs no chemistry or gumming and can be imaged using the same power as Fuji's existing thermal processed plate at 120mJ per square centimetre, resulting in the same production speeds.
Claimed to be compatible with most thermal (830nm) plate setters and approved for one per cent - 99 per cent at 200 lines per inch (lpi) conventional, 300lpi hybrid and FM screening, Brillia HD Pro-T is a non-ablative plate that carries a latent image with contrast, allowing visual inspection after imaging.
Fuji's Brillia HD Pro-T plates For Falkland Press were supplied by Litho Supplies.
Established in 1980, Falkland Press is run by the Lancasters, a mother, father and son triumvirate steeped in print.
Based in Barnet (UK) the company said it provides customers with all of their printing requirements, from fast turn-around short-run work through to glossy bound reports and large print runs.
