CTP reliability and service problems have been solved for packaging printer Integrated Packaging with a B1 CTP system from Fujifilm.

Gateshead (UK) Integrated Packaging's system comprises two Luxel T-9500 CTP thermal platesetters, that are claimed to be capable of outputting 22 plates per hour and Fuji's Brillia HD LH-PJE high definition plates.

Brillia HD LH-PJE is a thermal CTP plate that is said by Fujifilm to be compatible with most thermal (830nm) platesetters and approved for one per cent to 99 per cent at 200 limes per inch (lpi) conventional and 300lpi hybrid and FM screening.

The plate has a sensitivity of 120mJ per square centimetre and is claimed to provide improved handling.

Also supplied to Integrated Packaging by Fujifilm was a colour proofing system that includes an Epson 40-inch inkjet proofer.

General manager of Integrated Packaging, Godfrey Burn, said: "We were experiencing reliability and service problems with our previous CTP supplier.

In our industry, you just can't afford to let your customers down because, understandably, they demand quality work, delivered on time.

That's why we turned to Fujifilm, an organisation where service is key." He added: "The installation process with Fujifilm was superb.

We did not lose one minute of production time, which was some achievement.

By installing two Luxel platesetters we have ensured that we will always have a back up in case of emergency." Integrated Packaging has also installed a Komori six-colour press equipped with fully-automatic plate changing, capable of producing 500,000 sheets per week.

Integrated Packaging said it is also environmentally focussed and intends to use ISO 14001 as a framework for its environmental strategy.

That will define the company's environmental impact, highlighting areas of the business where the company can adapt processes to best fulfil environmental legislation.

Godfrey Burn added: "The fact that Fuji's plate is non-bake is good for UV printing as previously we had to bake all of our plates.

Within just a month of installation, we are already achieving run lengths of 103,000 with no quality issues." Founded in 1977, Integrated Packaging employs 160 staff and operates from a 120,000 square foot manufacturing facility.

Customers include food retailers such as Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Marks and Spencer and Sainsburys.
