Irish Printers Plan For Environmental Improvements

The need for printers to convert to more environmentally-conscious practices and operations is being recognised in Ireland, although it appears that the need to make the change is not a priority.

That is according to new research conducted on behalf of Fujifilm during the Print Ireland exhibition.

The company said that 72 per cent of Irish printers have developed plans to reduce their environmental footprints.

But the survey, which was conducted in conjunction with Litho Supplies, revealed that going 'green' is not at the top of the priority list for all Irish printers.

Fujifilm said that when printers were asked to name the biggest barriers they faced when attempting to become more environmentally-friendly, 61 per cent of respondents said that it was too costly to try to improve their environmental footprints.

At the same time, 22 per cent of those printers canvassed commented that there were more important business priorities to address.

The research also showed that 11 per cent of printers did not know how to become more environmentally-responsible, which was their main barrier to implementing 'green' practices.

Graham Leeson, Fujifilm UK's marketing manager, said: "This really is encouraging news for the printing community in Ireland.

However, it's obvious that some work still needs to be done towards facilitating the green transformation of the Irish printing industry.

Going green need not be a costly exercise and printers can reap cost and time savings, as well as improving their quality, by taking their first steps towards a greener future.".
