Fusion Systems International has announced a breakthrough in flexibility and functionality for its DigiPage workflow.

Fusion Systems International, a leading independent developer of Mac OS X, Linux, IRIX and Solaris Unix-based RIP and prepress workflow solutions, has announced a breakthrough in flexibility and functionality for its DigiPage workflow.

"What we have done is open up our DigiPage workflow to allow for custom backend processing of DigiPage files," says Sean Murphy, director of technology for Fusion Systems.

DigiPage SP introduces many benefits for resellers and end-users.

For example, each page could be automatically and dynamically registered into a database, along with thumbnails and page statistics, including resolution and line screen.

This would give production managers crucial real-time feedback about jobs in progress.

"Many of our customers have very specific needs and requirements, which cannot entirely be met by any off-the-shelf workflow product," says Murphy.

"So rather than having to introduce and prioritise every request for an enhancement as a core code modification, we now have a much simpler, more elegant avenue for meeting specific customer needs, and in a very time sensitive fashion.

"We are also finding that many of our resellers and customers employ technical staff with programming expertise.

"This allows these resellers and customers to create their own differentiation and advantage in an ever more competitive marketplace.

"And while not an 'open source' initiative 'per-se', the result is similar, in that DigiPage users will be able to share their efforts with the larger DigiPage user community, thereby leveraging their own efforts with those of many other technical prepress professionals".

Fusion Systems will ship an initial selection of functional scripts at product release, as well as a scripting API.

Users can either customise these scripts or create entirely new scripts of their own.

The backend processor will support Applescript as well as Perl, PHP, and other standard scripting languages available for Mac OS X, Linux, IRIX and Solaris.

The enhanced Script Processor backend will be a licensable option for DigiPage.

Customers with current support contracts will be offered the upgrade to DigiPage SP at a discount, if ordered within 60 days of availability.

"We believe there is a tremendous value proposition in this enhancement for our customers," says Logan Herbert, business manager for Fusion Systems.

The pricing for the standard DigiPage workflow will remain the same, according to Herbert.
