DigiPage 4.0 Offers Greater Flexibility
Fusion Systems International, a leading independent developer of Mac OS X and UNIX-based prepress workflow solutions, has announced the release of DigiPage 4.0 for Harlequin RIPs.
In addition to handling all popular file formats, including PDF/X-1a:2003 and PDF/X-3:2003, the new RIP provides full support for PDF 1.6.
The Fusion RIP maintains the ability to process PDF files natively without the need to convert to PostScript first.
Support for four-page imposition schemes, in addition to the previously released two-up support, is now available with the Version 7.1 release.
In-RIP imposition provides an imposition feature that is selected from within the RIP and which enables increased productivity and efficiency on the part of users, it is claimed.
The in-RIP imposition is aimed at simple imposition environments but the tiling, scaling and step and repeat options within the in-RIP imposition option will also support wide-format printing and flexography work.
For more sophisticated imposition layout capabilities, the Version 7.1 RIP continues to provide inter-operability with dedicated imposition applications.
Included is Version 2.0 of Global Graphics' JDF Enabler, which is designed to be compliant with the published JDF 1.2 specification and with level two of CIP4's Base Inter-operability Conformance Specification (ICS).
The continued JDF development is aimed at the needs of customers looking to improve efficiency by enhancing or adopting JDF workflows, added the company.
The new JDF Enabler allows for reference file format support of 1-bit TIFF-based workflows.
With a growing trend amongst computer-to-plate (CTP) manufacturers to accept 1-bit TIFF separation files from any source, such as the Fusion RIP, the latest enhancement provides extended communications support for open configurations.
Additionally, support of in-Rip Font Emulation, introduced with the Version 7.0 release, provides font emulation for applications such as Print on Demand (digital production print), newspapers, magazines, jobs where artwork or advertising is supplied independently of the paying customer, and other applications where output must leave on time.
The font emulation automatically produces typographically acceptable matches to missing fonts and ensures appropriate character spacing, weight and width, said Fusion Systems.
Fusion Systems International plans to begin delivering the Version 7.1 release within the next 60 days.
