Grand Format Printing For Back-Lit Production

A Gandinnovations product story

Gandinnovations said it has been working diligently developing new technology for the grand format industry.

At the forefront is a camera to achieve double-sided prints.

The technology is claimed to be easily added to all existing Jeti models and will offer a solution to printers who need true back-lit printing capability, said Gandinnovations.

The camera 'reads' the printed image on the front, which in turn allows the Jeti to directly copy that image to the back of the media.

Similar technology among the market has been in development, although problems with middle print and side distortion have eluded perfection, said the company.

Hary Gandy, Gandinnovations head of worldwide sales, said: "We are very proud of the progress we have made.

The dot placement amongst prints leads us to believe we'll redefine the industry standards of what is considered backlit." Gandinnovations is planning to showcase its Jeti 3312 with backlit camera option at Print '05 in Chicago, as well as SGIA and Viscom.

Additional technology is the introduction of the new Jeti 3318, which includes a software upgrade that compensates for any individual nozzle that may be misfiring.

For example, if a nozzle misfires, the software will automatically adjust its density to ensure premium print quality.

Also, the software will automatically compensate for the saturation, safe-guarding the image output.

The 'safe-proof' technology is claimed to be the first of its kind in the grand-format arena.

Also included is an automatic head wiping feature, which is said to eliminate the need to stop production and manually clean the heads.

Moebuis Digital Printing Studio in San Diego, California (USA) was the first recipient of the Jeti 3318 in June.

The company's founder, Peter Moebuis, said: "We had a big job to complete for a client and expected from past experience to work all weekend.

But, given the awesome speed of the Jeti we were able to wrap the job up in just four hours.

It uses ink more efficiently and the print heads really crank out the work.".
