GBC Films Group Europe will use Northprint 2005 to exhibit some of its latest thermal laminating systems for commercial on-demand and wide format finishing at the Harrogate (UK) show.

GBC will demonstrate - on stand M468 - the newly introduced thermal OPP specialty film range.

The company's Delta and Delta Junior short-run laminating systems will also be demonstrated.

The concept of the Delta range is based on the ability to change stock, size and film quickly said GBC.

The Delta is said to be compact and fully automated, operating at claimed speeds of up to 20 metres per minute and covering a maximum working width of 52cm x 74cm.

GBC also recently launched the Centurion 2 lamination system for high volume finishing, which has its first installations now taking place in Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and the UK.

The company will demonstrate the Titan 165 wide format laminating machine that is said to offer lamination up to 157cm.

The Titan range is said to provide cost effective lamination for the signage, photographic, copyshop and screen print market.

It is claimed to be suitable for print-for-pay companies and service providers looking for an entry level, in-house machine.

The Titan has nine memory settings for storing the parameters of regular jobs, such as mounting and laminating, encapsulation (low-melt or standard) and pop-ups, for instance.

The company believes those features and its claimed ease of use make it suitable for use alongside wide format inkjet printers, affording greater control, saving time and offering beneficial cost savings.

GBC has also expanded its film range with three new products - 8600 Silk OPP, 8450 Alubrush and an improved version of the 8450 Linen film.

The 8600 Silk OPP is an addition to the standard floss and matt OPP range.

Silk creates a non-reflective surface for brochures and books that require an elegant, lightly matt finish, whilst 8450 Linen and Alubrush offer cost savings, as the pattern is already built into the film said GBC.

The films are said to provide for consistent output, resulting in less waste.

The company said it hopes that the range extensions will help to convince traditional laminators to convert to thermal lamination.

GBC believes that as the advantages of thermal lamination become more widely known, commercial printers and trade finishers are receiving increasingly specific requests from customers to use thermal laminating film.

Also the considerably higher productivity and environmental friendliness of the thermal process are driving the growth of thermal lamination.

The company added that it can offer a complete lamination service in film and in equipment, offering the user the benefits of one-stop shopping and expertise on both film and machines.
