GBC Films Group Europe will be exhibiting the new Delta 76 and the Centurion 2 thermal laminating systems for commercial, on-demand and packaging finishing on its stand at Grafitalia 2006.

GBC Films Group Europe will be exhibiting the new Delta 76 and the Centurion 2 thermal laminating systems for commercial, on-demand and packaging finishing on its stand at Grafitalia 2006.

GBC will demonstrate its full range of films, encouraging customers to adopt not only gloss and matt films, but also encouraging them to discover the company's silk, scuff-free and metallic films.

The Delta laminating system is said to reflect the trend of decreasing production volumes, which requires an improved efficiency at the end of the production line.

The latest machines in the Delta range are designed to be fast, user friendly and cost effective with the ability to change stock, size and film quickly, added GBC.

The machines are compact and fully integrated operating at speeds of up to 30 metres per minute and covering a maximum working width of 52cm x 72cm.

Another new feature that is included in the Delta is a sheet-counter, which offers the user the ability set the machine to stop after having laminated the pre-set number of sheets, thus saving waste and increasing productivity.

At Grafitalia GBC will also launch the new GBC Delta 76, which is claimed to laminate up to a maximum width of 76cm at a maximum speed of 50 metres per minute.

Roberto Parola, GBC's sales manager for Italy, said: "The great success of the Delta machines is due to their ability to manage short runs whilst offering high quality performances.

They are ideal for mid-range and digital print applications when short lead times make it necessary to have a in-house finishing department." The Delta range is said to be suitable for digital printing as it matches most of the digital printing systems in the market and processes films, which offer better lay-flat properties and better adhesion to digital prints with fuser-oils such as GBC's Hi-Tac Lay-Flat.

Another new development on show will be the GBC digital OPP, which GBC believes offers better initial adhesion compared to the GBC 9525 Premium gloss and GBC 8326 matte films at an affordable premium.

At Grafitalia GBC will show its automated Centurion 2 thermal laminating system.

Centurion 2 is claimed to offer a productivity increase for thermal trade finishers, but with the help of tailored business cases GBC said it can show trade laminators still working with wet technology how they can increase their profits by converting to thermal systems.

The laminator has a feeder, separator and an integrated stacker, to reduce manual handling.

The Centurion 2 offers lamination up to 105cm wide, which makes the system that is suitable for all formats of high volume printed materials and also luxury package printing.

The Centurion 2 has now had its maximum web width increased from 60 metres to 70 metres per minute and it is designed to process a range of gloss and matt films, including the GBC speciality films, such as the 8600 Silk and the 8300 Scuff-free film.

The 8600 Silk OPP film provides a silk finish and non-reflective surface and is resistant to finger-prints, whilst giving a quality feel to the product, said GBC.

The film is also said to offer all the advantages of standard OPP film, such as excellent adhesion, for consistent quality output.

The film is also suitable for further finishing, such as spot varnish, UV varnish, embossing and foil stamping.

Another new development to be seen at the show is the 8300 Scuff-free film - a matte product that is claimed to be three times more durable and scratch-resistant than the GBC 8326 matte film.

The new film accepts UV-spot coating and creates greater visual impact, added the company.

Roberto Parola commented: "We will run extensive demonstrations of the Silk and Scruff-free films as we want to invite customers to discover the additional possibilities they have with lamination using these special films." The company's 7100 Metallic PET is the first thermal metallic printable polyester film available in Europe, claimed GBC.

The new 30 micron film is available for processing on GBC's Delta laminators and it is targeted at luxury packaging applications, and for use on magazines and brochures of very high quality to give them a distinguished finish, said GBC.
