Laminating Systems For Digital Print At Medprint
GBC Commercial Laminating Solutions Group will be exhibiting the full Delta range of laminating systems at Medprint 07.
GBC Commercial Laminating Solutions Group will be exhibiting the full Delta range of laminating systems at Medprint 07.
The company will be exhibiting the Delta 6052, Delta 7052 and Delta 7076.
The Delta range is claimed to be particularly suitable for digital printing as it matches most of the digital printing systems in the market and processes films.
The company added that its films offer better lay-flat properties and better adhesion to digital prints with such fuser-oils as the GBC Digital Lay-Flat Gloss and Matt.
Delta 6052 is said to be appropriate for laminators where volumes are small and production turn-around times are short.
The hand-fed laminating system with semi-automatic feeder and automatic separator is suitable for starting to laminating in-house or for adding flexibility to existing lamination facilities.
The Delta 6052 comes with a decurl bar to eliminate the 'curling' defect to obtain flat laminated documents.
The new version of the Delta 7052 laminating system will be first introduced at Medprint.
The machine is fully integrated, operating at a claimed extended speed of up to 30 metres per minute and covering a maximum working width of 52cm x 74cm.
The trend to decrease in production volumes requires an improved efficiency at the end of the production line.
GBC Delta lamination systems are claimed to be designed to be fast, user friendly and cost effective with the ability to change stock, size and film quickly.
A feature of the Delta 7052 is a sheet-counter, which offers the user the ability to pre-set the machine to stop after having laminated the pre-set number of sheets, saving waste and increasing productivity.
Another new feature of the latest edition of the Delta is the integrated slitting device, which avoids the need to change film rolls for every job as the slitter will slit the roll to the correct length.
The GBC Delta 7052 and Delta 6052 laminating systems are claimed by the company to be suitable for handling of smaller digital jobs with short turn-around times.
The concept of the Delta range is based on the ability to change stock size and film quickly.
The Delta 7052 is upgradable to a higher model, the GBC Delta 7076, which can laminate up to a maximum width of 76cm at a maximum claimed speed of 50 metres per minute - 60 metres per minute.
Said to be a first for Medprint is the introduction of GBC's Scuff-Free film - a combination of polypropylene and an abrasion-resistant coating that protects and enhances the look of books, packages and other printed materials.
Scuff-Free film provides a durable, scratch-resistant surface for protecting book covers, brochures and packaging applications.
GBC said that because the film will not scuff during production, or in shipping and handling, it reduces realized margins for publishers.
Scuff-Free film has a matt finish that minimises glare whilst preserving image colour.
The matt finish creates a luxurious appearance to attract the buyer's attention and increase the perceived value of the product.
Because it accepts UV spot coating, Scuff-Free film creates greater visual impact, believes GBC.
Through laminating, printers can present compelling advantages to their customers with superior and luxurious finishes, said GBC.
Suitable for digital on-demand laminating is GBC Digital Lay-Flat film, which provides superior adhesion and flat output when laminating electro-photographic prints.
Since prints can be laminated with Digital Lat-Flat immediately after printing, it is suitable for high-volume print shops requiring fast turn-around times to meet customer demands.
The new adhesive also eliminates the practice of making additional prints to take up excess accumulated fuser oil.
GBC Digital adhesive incorporates new adhesive technology and processes developed after years of testing by the company, it said.
The resulting product provides over 10 per cent greater bond strength than the closest competitor when tested across all measures.
It was tested on fresh prints including CMYK black and at various lamination speeds and temperatures on entry-level and high-speed laminators.
GBC Lay-Flat film with digital adhesive is available in gloss and matt.
