New Laminating Systems For Digital Print On Demand

A GBC Commercial Laminating Solutions Group product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Oct 4, 2007

New GBC 620os and GBC 5031 laminating systems for finishing one-sided and double-sided narrow-format digital output have widened GBC Commercial Laminating's range for digital print on demand.

The GBC 620os is a single-sided laminating system that features a semi-automatic feeding system and integrated separator.

GBC's 620os is a one-sided tabletop finishing system that is claimed to only need a five-minute warm-up time and is equipped with adjustable core adapters for various film widths.

The laminator is an entry-level unit with automated controls to ensure ease of use and time savings, said GBC.

The 620os is designed for the production of book covers, dust jackets and packaging, as well as sheeted gift cards, postcards and business cards.

With a claimed maximum speed of 15 metres per minute and a maximum sheet size of 53cm width x 76cm length, it is said to be suitable for short runs from colour printers and offset presses.

The GBC 6020os runs high-speed films up to 520mm wide, such as GBC's Digital Lay-Flat film, added the company.

The laminating system also accommodates polypropylene and polyester films on rolls up to 1,000m in length.

The GBC 5031 TS laminating system can be integrated in a commercial printing, or in-house production environment for two-sided lamination.

The 5031 TS consists of three individual components - the 5031 TS Laminator, the 5031 Feeder and the 5031 Cutter.

According to GBC the system functions as an in-line finishing system with a minimum of manual intervention.

The laminator component of the GBC 5031 TS features a dual heating system that incorporates heat shoes and heated nip rollers, enabling the strongest possible adhesion at the fastest speeds, claimed GBC.

Edge-slitters are an added technical advantage to reduce post-process finishing.

To further improve workflow, the 5031 in-line feeder connects to the laminator for precision sheet-feeding.

The feeder incorporates a deck and vacuum feed head to accommodate a range of stock types and sizes.

The stand-alone 5031 cutter completes the integrated system by providing in-line leading and trailing edge cuts.

All of the components in the 5031 TS system can also be controlled by a single operator.

Giel Klinkers, marketing and sales director at GBC Commercial Laminating Solutions Group, commented: "The 5031 TS is designed to encapsulate and efficiently handle two-sided lamination for the output of a wide variety of digital printers.

An increasing number of double-sided prints are being produced digitally and these new systems directly address the growing need for in-house lamination.".
