Launched at Drupa 2008, GBC's 8500HS Cyclone is claimed to be the fastest and most advanced commercial laminating system, capable of running at up to 500 feet (150 metres) per minute.

The 8500HS Cyclone is also said to accommodate sheet widths up to 44" (112cm) Three models are available for sheet lengths of 31" (79cm), 44" (112cm) and 56" (142cm), the latter of which is the model GBC is running during Drupa

The laminator includes an integrated MABEG feeder that can run up to 18,000 sheets per hour, said GBC.

According to the company, MABEG feeders are known worldwide for their reliability and accuracy.

GBC said that its new Advanced Adhesion Mechanism, which is claimed to improve bonding at all speeds, can be also be seen for the first time at Drupa '08 within the 8500HS Cyclone's lamination unit.

After prints are laminated, they are separated with the aid of a track-mounted snapping assembly that remains stationary, whilst running and maintaining its grip over the sheet.

The result is said to be clean and accurate separation of prints before they enter the stacker.

The company added that a single operator can control all critical functions of the 8500HS Cyclone from one of the two touch-screen monitors that have been placed on the system.

At the main screen, the operator can configure job settings, including sheet length, speed ratios, film tension and separation.

Job parameters can be stored in memory for recurring jobs.
