Pantone Colours Embedded In Proofing Systems
GMG, the colour management and proofing specialist has signed a worldwide licensing agreement with Pantone to include the official Pantone Lab values in GMG products.
This year's tests compared 19 systems from 12 participating manufacturers.
GMG entered two systems in the competition - Colorproof o4 matched with an Epson 4000 printer and Colorproof o4 with a Creo Veris printer.
The task performed was a simulation of a sheet from a web press printed on supercalendered (SC) paper.
All vendors received measured values from the press sheet, which had to be met as close as possible within just one hour's time.
A visual and colourimetric test was conducted between the digital proof and press sheet.
Every participant also printed an Altona test suite to judge the PDF/X3 capabilities of the systems.
On measured colourimetric tests, GMG received the highest scores with an overall average of 0.8 and 0.9 delta E for the CMYK media wedge category.
In all other measured colourimetric tests, Colorproof systems scored as low as 0.5 delta E in some categories, and never higher than 2.3 delta E.
In visual tests, the GMG systems were often assessed the highest possible score (7.0).
The GMG/Epson system was the only one to score a perfect 7.0 on a visual judgment of a media wedge and received the highest score (6.6) on one of the most important categories, visual colour.
Again, as in previous tests where GMG has participated, both systems interpreted the Altona test suite perfectly said the company.
"GMG takes colour and these tests, very seriously.
You cannot fool spectrophotometers.
Either your results are accurate, or they're not.
As in past tests we are pleased that we were able to score outstanding results on measured tests and, perhaps just as importantly, on visual ones as well.
Once again, we were able to demonstrate that GMG systems provide cost-effective solutions to generate accurate contract proofs," commented Robert Weihing, GMG's chief executive officer.
