A year after the launch of its o4 range of colour management and proofing applications - Colorproof, Dotproof and Flexoproof, GMG has introduced version o4.1 of the products.

A year after the launch of its o4 range of colour management and proofing applications - Colorproof, Dotproof and Flexoproof, GMG has introduced further enhancements with the release of version o4.1 of the products.

Colorproof is a colour management software system for calibrating digital inkjet proofing engines to produce digital contract colour proofs, precisely matched to the printing press.

Contract quality halftone proofs are produced using the Dotproof option, whilst Flexoproof supports the specific needs of the flexo and packaging industry.

In version o4.1, GMG said it has added compatibility for the latest Epson inkjet printers, whilst it expands the scope of output devices supported by introducing drivers for an additional VLF device and laser printers for the first time.

It has also introduced new media profiles and enables direct RGB file printing, whilst adding a 1-Bit Creator function for half-tone proofing.

The key features in version o4.1 that expand GMG proofing and colour management functions include support for the new eight-colour Epson Stylus Pro 4800, 7800 and 9800 inkjet printer range to provide contract proofs at a production speed claimed to be twice the previous output rate.

The version supports the Mutoh RJ8000 VLF printer, so that users have the ability to produce very large format, claimed high quality, 720 dots per inch (dpi) and 1,440dpi prints and proofs in four, six and eight colours.

In Version o4.1 GMG has introduced support for laser printers for the first time for those users, particularly advertising and design agencies, that want a fast and cost-effective method of producing interim layout proofs.

At present GMG Colorproof can drive the OKI C9500, OKI 9500 V2 and Epson Acculaser 8600 printers and further devices will be added in the future.

A number of new media profiles are available, from a variety of ISO standards to SWOP, GRACoL, PSR-ECI and 3DAP, for the new Epson x800 Series output devices.

The PhotoProof function, which is part of the scope of delivery of Colorproof, allows users to output RGB files direct to Epson printers using the full colour gamut of the output device.

The application is said to be suitable for short run poster production and image proofing where a strong depth of colour is required.

The introduction of a 1-Bit Creator feature for Dotproof and Flexoproof allows users, such as advertising agencies, design firms and publishers, for instance, that do not own a RIP or workflow system, to create and proof 1-bit screened data from their files to obtain a true representation of how a final printed item, or package, will look on different media - complete with screening structure colour rosettes, said GMG.

As a result, potential problems such as moire and trapping issues can be identified at an early stage.

Jawdatt Mawassii, GMG's vice president of sales and business development, said: "Over the past year, we have invested in significant product development efforts to ensure we continue to provide highly competitive proofing products that deliver unrivalled quality and rapid return on investment to our customers." Users of version o4 can download Version o4.1 from the support area of the GMG web site free of charge.
