GMG has introduced Proofpaper Semimatte 250, a 250gsm paper with a semi-matte finish that is claimed to permit printing of much sharper inkjet droplets.

Developed specifically for the new Epson 4800, 7800 and 9800 printers, as well as the older x000 devices, Proofpaper Semimatte is said to ensure that ink is optimally absorbed in the paper, preventing over-inking and blotchy build-ups.

Proofpaper Semimatte is useful for producing high-end contract proofs and is compatible with a range of printers, said GMG.

The semi-matte paper is also said to be suitable for direct printing applications-posters, for example.

Whilst Proofpaper semi-matte permits printing of sharper inkjet droplets, with a corresponding improvement in the quality of the printed proof, typefaces are also reproduced more faithfully, whilst images become more brilliant as a result of better definition, claimd GMG.

Because the paper was developed specifically for Epson printers, the ink is absorbed by the paper's coating.

Consequently, there are no over-inking problems that can lead to blotchy build-ups or a matte surface finish when proofs are viewed at an angle.

Homogeneous coating, along with better colour absorption, provides more consistent quality, both within the proof and between different media sizes and batches, added the company.

The white point of Proofpaper 250 matches ISO standards and simulates SWOP or GRACoL white points as well.

Fluctuations in the paper white point between different paper batches are said to be less than one Delta E.

In addition, a Delta of less than 0.5 is said to be guaranteed for the individual values of L, a, and b, thus assuring repeatability of proofs, said GMG.

Paper flatness before and after printing has been improvedand is achieved by the larger 3" roll core and new manufacturing techniques, paper curl is prevented, making proofs easier to view and enhancing their overall impression.

The paper is available exclusively from authorised GMG distributors and dealers in 100-foot (30-metre) rolls in widths from 17" (32.2cm) to 42 inches (106.7cm) wide and 100 sheet boxes of 13" x 19" (A3+) or 16.5" x23.4" (A2) size.

A number of standard profiles are available, from a variety of ISO standards to SWOP, GRACoL, PSR-ECI, and 3DAP, developed for the Epson 4800, 7800 and 9800 printers.

In addition, the paper is siutable for the Epson x000 Series output devices.

Proofpaper is supported in software version o4.1 and higher.

Owners of version o4 can download version o4.1 from the GMG at no charge.

GMG said that users can be assured there are no fluctuations within or between batches or different sizes.

The profiles supplied by GMG are perfectly matched to printer, paper and printing process.

Robert Weihing, the chief executive officer of GMG, saiD: "We understand that a contract proofing system is incomplete without exceptional, repeatable media.

We want our customers to be assured that the media they use along with Colorproof is capable of reproducing the most consistent proofs.

We feel very comfortable that Proofpaper semi-matte will meet customer expectations.".
