GMG has appointed Percept General Trading in Sharjah (UAE) to market its products in the Gulf region, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Oman and Yemen.

GMG has appointed Percept General Trading in Sharjah (UAE) to market its products in the Gulf region, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Oman and Yemen.

Jo Maessen, sales and business development manager for EMEA at GMG, said he sees Percept as the ideal partner to successfully establish GMG's software in the region and to achieve further growth.

GMG products are claimed to help optimise printing colour quality and printability, achieve matching colour consistency across remote sites, enhance cost savings and avoid repetitive processes.

Common instances like machine stoppage for colour approval incurs losses overall and erodes client confidence, which can be avoided with GMG's proofing technology.

The company's Inkoptimizer is said to help a printer to achieve reduction of ink consumption per job without compromising on quality.

According to Afsal Kottal, business manager for print solutions at Percept, the new partnership with GMG enhances Percept's presence as a provider of management information systems to the printing industry.

Bringing GMG's colour management and proofing systems to the market compliments Percept's mission statement.

Afsal M Kottal, who heads the print solutions division at Percept is a qualified print technology engineer and has eight years of production, technical and management experience in the newspaper and commercial printing industries.

On the colour management front, he was trained in colour management in the USA and Europe and has experience in implementing colour management in newspaper with multiple satellite units, commercial printers and advertising firms.

According to Afsal the industry, in spite of being aware of the existence and advantages of high end colour management systems, tend to hold back from employing such products owing to the difficulties faced in their implementation and fine tuning them to highest levels of quality.

He added that Percept hopes to remedy that with the required expertise available locally.

He also commented that it is frequent for printers when asked to match and predict colours before printing, to resort to procedures like producing a press proof, approving on press runs, or reprinting, which are all time consuming and expensive.

GMG explained that the use of high end systems can also address the issue of achieving colour quality that compares to the visual media.

GMG added that Percept's print division is also equipped to provide consultancy in setting up pre-press workflows for newspapers and commercial printing presses, as well as providing training on various topics related to printing technologies, such as implementing colour management systems, standardising working procedure and consultancy for MIS.
