Automating Production Rescheduling Software In DM

Production planning addresses the central questions of economics - what to produce, how to produce, where to produce and how much to produce - within the context of mail processing plants.
Through production planning mailhouses are able to allocate production resources to meet customer requirements.
According to Giraffe Production Systems, production planning software is designed for planning print production and used to prioritise and schedule production across mail processing plants, machine capacity, labour resources and mailhouse processes.
Production planning enables forecasting and planning of mailhouse resource requirements and machine capacity utilisation.
That is to conserve mailhouse resources - machines, labour, materials and optimum resource utilisation can maximise productivity and minimise production costs.
Giraffe commented that production planning enables planning and tracking of mailhouse orders across multiple areas of processing, whilst scheduling is based on order priority and the priorities for production are assigned for each processing area on each shift to boost customer service.
Production planning software generates a production schedule detailing required production on each shift within each processing area and the production schedule should be interactive and responding dynamically to contingencies in production at plant level.
Whenever a schedule needs to be amended all of the existing jobs on the schedule are affected, so are subsequent processes for each and every one of those jobs, said Giraffe.
Production planning software such as Giraffe's Scheduling System offers automated rescheduling of production around machine breakdowns, amended customer orders, amended order priorities, delayed deliveries of materials or production running slower than expected, said the company.
The software is claimed to automate the rescheduling process, which offers benefits for the scheduler's time but also the accuracy and relevance of the production schedule to allocate resources such as machine capacity.
