Digital OEM Adds Harlequin RIP - Complements CTP
Werner Kammann Maschinenfabrik GmbH, a manufacturer of screen, offset and digital printing machines for the CD and DVD markets, has licensed the Harlequin RIP from Global Graphics Software.
Werner Kammann Maschinenfabrik GmbH, a manufacturer of screen, offset and digital printing machines for the CD and DVD markets, has licensed the Harlequin RIP from Global Graphics Software.
It has done so to provide a superior front-end system to complement its own brand of computer-to-plate (CTP) systems.
Werner Kammann Maschinenfabrik, which also specialises in decorating machines for glass bottle, plastic containers, roll-on-roll web and the cosmetic printing markets, can now integrate the Global Graphics Harlequin RIP into its CTP devices such as the Kammann K15 high-speed offset press for CD/DVD decoration.
It can also do so for the K26, Kammann's new CTP plate-making system for its CD and roll-to-roll offset decoration machines.
"Any printing technology can benefit from introducing the digital process, or what I call the 'computer-to-platform' approach, that is, it could be computer-to-plate, or computer-to-screen, and so on," explained Oliver Kammann, the technical manager of Werner Kammann's Pre-press department.
"One of our clients can come to us with a traditional manual screen printing operation, which is extremely labour intensive, based on mechanical equipment and many manual pre-press production processes.
We develop a digital solution which will enable the business to grow without the highly capital-intensive investments that would be necessary if the client stuck to the previous way of working," added Kammann.
In addition, the company also plans to use the Global Graphics Harlequin licence to provide customised user interfaces, including output format plug-ins specially tailored to individual markets.
Wilfried Kammann, managing director and chief executive officer of Werner Kammann commented: "As a company, we had excellent experience with Harlequin technology for some six years prior to deciding to become an OEM.
The Harlequin RIP is very fast and its plug-in architecture means we can configure it easily to individual user requirements.
It is also very reliable in that it never breaks and never crashes.
That kind of stability combined with its superior performance makes Harlequin the ideal RIP solution to provide a top class front end system to complement the development of CTP." Jim Freidah, president and chief operating officer of Global Graphics, said: "This announcement underlines the diversity of applications in which the Harlequin RIP is used today.
It not only gives market leading performance in terms of speed and reliability, but its, flexibility, rich set of features and open architecture mean that OEMs can build a vast number of Harlequin RIP-based workflows to suit a broad range of market applications whether it be to drive CTP devices, high speed digital presses or for screening and proofing applications.".
