The new products include new entry-level systems that make the benefits of consistent colour reproduction more accessible and affordable to a wider range of users, especially small to medium sized printers.

A new enhancement to its Eye-One systems allows users to create profiles in an even more convenient and time saving method, combining the Eye-One Pro measurement device together with new software to calculate profiles.

With this development Eye-One provides a clear advantage over today's competitive offerings in terms of ease of use and, on the spot, reliable results, said the company.

Also at Drupa will be the latest version of GretagMacbeth's professional colour management software for use pre-press and publishing, Profilemaker 5.

The software is now available in three variants - PM5 Publish, PM5 Packaging and PM5 Photostudio Pro.

They are aimed at the pre-press, publishing and the multicolour packaging and textile printing markets.

Each is tailored to provide only what is required for each workflow, maintaining ease of use while also providing the capability to expand the packages as the user's need grow.

The new Profilemaker Packaging includes what is claimed to be a revolutionary new multicolour module that supports a limitless colour profile generation capability for up to 10 channels, with and without CMYK inks, in addition to Hexachrome and CMYK and red and blue profiles.

Also said to be unique is a new patent-pending generic output profiling system with which users can replace inks in existing profiles instead of making new test charts.

That reduces the need for re-measuring and profiling when changing inks, significantly decreasing time and cost associated with recreating plates and cylinders for new test charts.

Commercial shipments of Profilemaker 5 were due to begin in March 2004.

For the pressroom GretagMacbeth has a new series of DensiEye densitometers for CMYK and spot colour measurements to make it faster and easier to control colour on press and to shorten make ready time and provide colour consistency throughout the print run.

They are lightweight, easy to handle and feature a new user interface that shortens the learning curve.

The newest version of the Inkformulation 5.0 will be enhanced with batch processing, the formulation of additional substrates such as metallic foils and transparent films, improved printing functionality for labels and reports that can be customised and simplified communication between pressroom and ink laboratory.

Configured with either a Spectrolino or Spectroeye spectrophotometer, new Inkformulation software provides a powerful, high-end ink formulation engine that makes it possible for users to measure a colour and obtain the ink recipe without a cumbersome trial and error process.

This reduces waste and shortens down time due to on-press corrections.

Another new web-based ink formulation system will give ink manufacturers and suppliers the ability to offer a centralised, easily up-datable database of ink formulation data to their customers which they can easily access via the Internet.

This will give printers that do not wish to install ink formulation applications in-house access to the databases, developed by experts, for reliably mixing and matching inks.
