Gretag Macbeth has extended its Profilemaker 5 family with PM5 Publish Plus.

Gretag Macbeth has extended its Profilemaker 5 family with PM5 Publish Plus The company said that the growing demands of print professionals producing CMYK-based multi-colour output require accurate, predictable colour reproduction within a simplified workflow and that PM5 Publish Plus is the only system that addresses those needs

According to Great Macbeth, managing colour in a multi-colour workflow involves more than profiling an output device.

To be effective and efficient, it must also address two of the biggest hurdles in CMYK+N workflows, the separation process and soft and hard proofing requirements.

PM5 Publish Plus addresses those two issues with Photoshop plug-ins, to provide reliable colour communication from concept to final production, with accelerated time-to-market, while significantly decreasing costs, claimed the company.

PM5 Publish Plus is targeted to meet the requirements of LFP, digital, analogue and textile printers that need to effectively colour manage gamut extending CMYK+N devices.

PM5 Publish Plus is said to build upon PM5 Publish with a sophisticated CMYK+N ICC profile generation up to 10 channels.

Once users have created their CMYK+N profile in PM5 Publish Plus, they are able to edit and soft-proof their images in Photoshop, create a multi-colour separation with an automated single click and output their image using the PM5 Multicolour Plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop.

In addition to speeding up and simplifying the separation process, users can now achieve colour results with only one iteration.

That represents time and materials savings versus current workflows that typically require three to five cycles of image editing, creating separations and printing, said Gretag Macbeth.

The multi-colour profiling technology in PM5 Publish Plus is claimed to ensure vibrant colour images, while optimising ink consumption.

The CMYK+N ICC profile generation algorithm allows users to supplement the CMYK channels with up to six additional spot colours without any restriction.

In addition, users have the ability to adjust several very important parameters during profile generation, including ink consumption, ink priorities and metamerism stability.

The minimise ink option saves consumables by minimising ink consumption without changing the appearance with, for instance, up to 11 per cent ink savings for a typical Hexachrome inkjet printer, claimed Gretag Macbeth.

The company believes that the ink priorities option ensures the best possible results by allowing the user to intuitively assign ink priorities that individually strengthen and weaken channels within a multi-colour separation.

For packaging and applications where the best possible colour rendition under different lighting conditions is required, the metamerism stability option allows users to select two light sources for matching.

The PM5 Plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop are said to simplify and streamline the proofing and separation process by integrating ICC colour management tools in to a multi-colour workflow.

The Separation plug-in allows users to create multi-colour separations of LAB, RGB and CMYK images with a single click.

The Proofing plug-in enables both soft-proofing on the monitor, as well as hard-proofing on RGB, CMYK or CMYK+X proofers without the need for further colour management adjustments added the company.

Iris Mangelschots, vice president and general manager of digital imaging at Gretag Macbeth, said: "Profilemaker 5 software is acknowledged as the colour management sysyems of choice by colour experts in publishing and high-end imaging environments worldwide.

PM5 Publish Plus is perfect for CMYK-based multi-colour printing, including high-end large format printing, textile digital printing and digital printing for print, textile and packaging.

Unparalleled new workflow tools and capabilities show Gretag Macbeth's continuous commitment to delivering systems that provide high quality results while reducing production costs by simplifying and streamlining the entire workflow." PM5 Publish Plus includes monitor, scanner, RGB, CMYK, Hexachrome, CMYK+Red and Blue, CMYK+Red and Green and multi-colour (CMYK+N) profiling, a Profile Editor for editing and fine tuning profiles by working with lightness, contrast, saturation, white point and gradation curves, a Measure Tool for collecting and analysing colour data, a Colorpicker for converting spot colours to process colours, as well as the PM5 Multicolour plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop.

Additional modules can be added, giving users the flexibility to expand their packages as their needs grow.

It is available stand-alone or bundled with Gretag Macbeth colour measurement instruments, added the company.

The software is now available through Gretag Macbeth's worldwide distribution network and the PM5 Multicolour plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop are available as a free download from the company's website.
