Collators Help Printer Maintain Green Ethos
To meet its environmental code, Greenhouse Graphics has installed a Horizon VAC-Turbo Powercollator with SPF-200A.
That philosophy is clearly paying dividends for Sprint Finish which is set to expand in to an adjacent unit to double its floor space to 13,000 square feet and following 17 years of continual growth, the company is expecting a 35 per cent increase in turnover in the coming year.
Sprint Finish managing director Kevin Logan said: "We need to be versatile and cope with just about any kind of finishing requirement.
The GAE VAC system is ideal for short run collating and booklet making for runs of around 10,000 and under which are not economical to produce on our long-run stitching line.
We have put all kinds of papers through the VAC from 70gsm bond to 400gsm covers with no problems.
It has two eight-station towers that can be operated independently to produce two jobs simultaneously and that makes for a very flexible system." The VAC-Turbo is the company's fourth Horizon machine and it now runs alongside a Horizon MC-80.
"The level of automation on the VAC means super-fast job changeovers and high efficiency, but we kept our MC-80 because there are some more unusual bespoke jobs which are best set up on a manual machine," said Logan.
Sprint Finish was founded in 1988.
It has been in its current premises in the former shipbuilding district of Sunderland for seven years.
It offers the full range of finishing services including perfect binding, folding, guillotining, cutting and creasing, laminating and encapsulation.
One of the most successful recent additions has been a wire-o binding facility, which has proven ideal for the production of calendars.
