After expanding in to the B2 market with the addition of a new press, Acorn Print of Willenhall, West Midlands (UK) has bought a Horizon AFC-546 automated B2 combination folding system.

The Horizon folding system was bought from Graphic Arts Equipment (GAE) to meet its new finishing needs.

Acorn Print's works manager, Duncan Newman, explained: "The B3 market seems to be saturated, so we have invested in a new B2 press and in anticipation we are installing finishing kit, which will cope with the larger format.

A year ago we installed a Horizon VAC Powercollator with book production, and we have been impressed with Horizon and the backup from GAE.

Folding is one of the areas that can make a big difference to the finished product.

Sometimes products must be folded to fit their packaging, and sometimes an unusual fold is integral to the design concept." He explained that the company chose the Horizon AFC-546 because its six-buckle configuration offers the widest possible range of folds, and he believed it is possibly the most flexible machine of its type on the market.

Newman added: "Another big factor was make-ready time.

Horizon make highly automated machines, which set themselves up in next to no time.

They also have a fast running speed and are reliably accurate.

Sometimes when printing work-and-turn the difference in ink coverage from one side of the sheet to the other can lead to curling, which caused problems for our old machine, but the Horizon handles it with ease.

For simplicity of use and high throughput, Horizon is the answer.".
