Graphic Arts Equipment (GAE) will stage the UK launch of the Horizon BQ-470 4-clamp perfect binding system at Northprint 07.

Graphic Arts Equipment (GAE) will stage the UK launch of the Horizon BQ-470 4-clamp perfect binding system at Northprint 07.

Said to be the first fully-automated JDF-ready mid-range perfect binding system, the BQ-470, with a claimed cycle speed of 1,350, bph, represents the next step to increased capacity for printers that have successfully cultivated the popularity for on-demand short run paperback publishing, said GAE.

The exhibition will also be the first Northprint showing for GAE's new generation Horizon SPF/FC-200A book production line and the first UK trade show appearance of the Perfecta 115TVC Autocut Flowline since its Ipex 2006 launch.

The SPF/FC-200A features a 10.4" icon-based colour touch-screen and simplified jam removal and belt cleaning procedures, said GAE.

Automation has been extended to every set-up adjustment and includes lateral registration on the machine, the stitching head unit, stitch distance, side jog guide, back stop, side guide at fold section, top jog guide, transport roller, back stop, and the fold and press roller gap.

Stitch delay time and multi-knocking-up at the stitch section has been added and there is a built-in hand marrying unit and manual feed tray.

The fold and press rollers are gear driven for consistent accuracy and reliability, with a claimed production speed is up to 4,500 books per hour.

It will be on demonstration with the standard Horizon VAC-100 Powercollating system.

The deep-pile (130mm) bin VAC-60H will be shown with the Horizon Stitchliner fully-automated JDF-ready saddlestitching and three-knife trimming line, which has a production speed of 5,500bph (11,000 bph two-up), added GAE.

It will also be displayed in a ldemonstration of the Horizon i2i Net>Work>Flow with the Horizon APC-61II Automated JDF guillotine, Horizon AFC-566FKT fully-automated JDF B2+ folding system and Horizon BQ-270 automated JDF single clamp perfect binder.

The new Horizon i2i Net>Work>Flow system has been extended to allow even non-automated, non-Horizon processes to be included in the MIS/JDF workflow, by creating an i2i job ticket, commented GAE.

It travels with the work and is used by the operator to set the machine in the usual way and then feed back job status information on the i2i satellite computer.

The Horizon i2i Workstation offers the user a bindery management facility, which can be used independently as well as plugging in to the customer's overall JDF/MIS network as and when it becomes available, added the company.

The Perfecta 115TVC Autocut Flowline is CIP4 JDF compatible and features programming via a 10" touch-screen.

The Autocut model includes a dual level front bed and suction mode air-bed to allow automated cut-and-advance operation, as well as in-bed waste removal that further enhances productivity.

That, together with the stack lift, jogging and down-loading flowline is said to create efficiency in the cutting room.
