Peterborough on-demand book specialist, the Copytech Group, is trimming costs with a Horizon HT-30 JDF-ready robotic three-side trimmer.

It is the seventh UK installation of the Horizon HT-30 since its launch by GAE at Ipex last year.

The new Horizon puts the finishing touch to a GBP0.5 million capital equipment revamp designed to keep Copytech competitive in a tough sector where its client portfolio ranges from self-publishers to publishers, Taylor and Francis being one of its larger clients, using the print on demand system.

Copytech group managing director, Andy Cork, said: "We chose the Horizon because of its speed of cutting and cost saving on handling.

It has performed better than expected and it's very user-friendly, which is key to us.

You can just load up the feeder and leave it to perform and we chose GAE because the company cares.

Its after sales support is first class." For the past 12 years the Copytech Group has been specialising in short run digital book production.

It said that in partnership with software manufacturers it has pioneered a method of book production that uses a minimal amount of manual intervention.

The web-to-print book production, for run lengths up to 1,500 copies, has two key product lines - mono or colour books finished as softbacks or case-bound.

There are set costing matrices for quantities from 1 - 25, 25 - 250 and 250 upwards.

For new jobs and re-prints customers can either order online via the company's web-to-print system, or distribute-then-print, working with the Copytech Group's joint-venture partner in the USA.
