Maximising Lamination Ability Helps Win Business

A Graphic Arts Equipment product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Aug 1, 2007

The ability to maximise the potential of its lamination capabilities is seeing D W Print Finishing win new business, thanks to a GBC Delta 7052 laminator from Graphic Arts Equipment.

The GBC Delta 7052 laminating system is fully integrated and is said to be operating at up to 30 metres per minute and covering a maximum sheet size of 52cm x 74cm.

A key feature is a pre-set sheet counter, which saves waste and increases productivity, said Graphic Arts Equipment (GAE).

GAE explained that those features are behind the popularity of the Delta 7052 in the crossover litho and digital commercial printing sector and was a reason for GBC's selection of GAE to supply the equipment.

The latest D W Print Finishing spend with GAE follows D W's ivestment earlier this year in additional Horizon VAC Powercollating towers and extended delivery for an existing Stitchliner.

The company also added an MKU-54 mobile knife unit to endorse fold brochures, catalogues and booklets on-line.

White's decision to invest in the commercial specification system, which is claimed to have more substrate options, greater flexibility and higher productivity than other machines, is already bearing fruit.

He explained: "We were getting a lot of short-run digital job of runs of 30 or 40 copies.

Outsourcing can end up being more than the job is worth, so offering lamination in-house was always in the back of my mind.

It complements what we already do here." White said: "Since it was installed demand has grown.

One client in Yorkshire is sending us five or six jobs every day and the defining factor is the quality we are able to achieve on the Delta as much as our turn-round times and overall service." The majority of work is short run Wire-O, or perfect bound booklets and business cards.

The company also finishes a range of religious books, which have the covers produced elsewhere.

White explained: "We also expect to capture that lamination work when our current stock of covers run out.

Having lamination here makes the difference between customers coming to us or going somewhere else.

We can also scuff-free matt lamination and other special finishes that many machines simply can't apply." Darren White has to balance the need to remain competitive by expanding the range of services his company can offer in-house against the danger of over-stretching capital investment.

That is another reason for the close working relationship with GAE.

White commented: "I know GAE and the company knows me and my business.

It understands what I need and if a problem crops up GAE sort it out quickly.

GAE understands that when I buy something new it has to work first time.".
