The need for speed prompted Alphagraphics' Sheffield print franchise to install one of Horizon's APC-61II 61cm fully-automated programmable hydraulic guillotines.
Calderprint's works director, Peter Birbeck, said he chose the company's favoured finishing equipment specialist, GAE, as the supplier when making the latest bindery investment.
Birbeck explained: "Our folding machine was getting to the end of its life so we took a look at the latest models and, naturally, talked to our GAE contact.
When he talked us through all the features on the new Horizon system and showed us a video we were convinced it was pretty much unbeatable and we ordered it straight away." As long-standing Horizon users Calderprint's staff had little problem getting to grips with the new addition, he said.
And he continued: "Because we already run automated Horizon systems with the same touch-screen interface and the set-ups on the new AFC are so straight-forward, we didn't need to spend much time getting used to the new system.
It was up and running from day one and has been working round the clock most days.
In fact we are getting through 10 per cent more work." As a regular GAE customer Birbeck commented: "We know and trust Horizon.
We knew this machine would do what we wanted it to and we haven't been let down by it." Founded in 1978, Calderprint is a 24-hour operation, with 95 employees and a turnover of GBP6.5m.
