Guillotine Provides Speed For Print Franchise
The need for speed prompted Alphagraphics' Sheffield print franchise to install one of Horizon's APC-61II 61cm fully-automated programmable hydraulic guillotines.
Print Plus managing director Adam Ray explained that the Horizon AFC566FKT folder's large icon-based colour touch-screen makes set-ups possible in less than a minute.
He was also keen on the benefits offered by the 200 job on-board memory store, the combination of steel and urethane foam rubber on the folding rollers for grip and a sharper fold and a patented advance rotary drum suction feed.
The feed provides a claimed 42,000 sheets per hour (sph) and the system has 17 standard fold patterns, including roll fold, zigzag fold and DL fold.
Ray said: "The Horizon system is easy to set-up and offers a lot, including the mini-concertina fold, which is perfect for the work we do such as folded guides for a variety of agencies." Print Plus's older folder is now being used for longer runs and those that are simpler to set up, said GAE.
The new Horizon system tackles the more complex shorter runs giving the printing company greater job flexibility and the ability to move work around from one machine to another, depending on demand, said GAE.
Adam Ray explained: "The push button technology is essential, especially for short run work.
We can set up the jobs quickly and easily and smoothly move from one job to anther.
This helps with job production." And he continued: "We have stopped sub-contracting out any folding work, when six months ago all the complex jobs were sent out.
We are now folding in-house, which gives us greater control and the ability to meet the demand for faster turn-around that all printing companies are facing.
It also helps us offer a little more value added to the range of products we can supply.".
