Guillotine Provides Speed For Print Franchise
The need for speed prompted Alphagraphics' Sheffield print franchise to install one of Horizon's APC-61II 61cm fully-automated programmable hydraulic guillotines.
The company's production manager, Shaun Du Randt, said: "We are going to look towards achieving this in the next year or two.
We are looking at integration throughout and once the pre-press and press departments are fully compliant, the bindery will be the next step." The Horizon system has replaced an existing trim-stitch-line, which was also supplied by GAE.
The SPF200A integrates with the JDF network via Horizon's i2i workflow.

Computer-Controlled Guillotine's Fast Change-Overs
When Hurricane Press needed a high-quality guillotine to replace older equipment it chose a Perfecta 76UC.
The bindery spend included the installation of a GBC Aspira 6052 laminator from GAE, which is claimed to be suitable for small volumes.
The hand-fed system has a semi-automatic feeder and automatic separator and is said to be able to run at 15 metres per minute and has a decurl bar to eliminate curling.
Du Randt added: "It was just a natural progression.
We need systems that offer a quick turn-around and fast set-ups.
This booklet production line does that.
We also do a lot of side saddlestitching." He explained: "For example, since its installation, we have been putting all our Toyota work through the Horizon machine with runs from 500 to 1,000.
We have also been finishing 2,000 copies of production manuals with 50 to 60 pages." Du Randt said that the ability to chop and change between jobs more quickly has made an impact on the way Elanders Hindson can operate.
And he said: "But we do also put similar size A4, A5 and A6 runs together which only need minor tweaks between size changes." Elanders Hindson has a digital orinting department with two Indigo presses and four laser printers where short run work is produced.
Such jobs can be three, four, or five of a product that specify lamination, which the company has always offered but before doing it in-house work had to be sent out.
That meant incurring a minimum charge and the company did not want to continue.
As a long-term GAE customer Du Randt said he was confident that the new systems would meet his expectations: "We know the Horizon equipment works well and all our staff find their systems easy to understand and operate.
We have a good relationship with the people at GAE and benefit from good support with parts, service and training.".
