Express Offset gets GAE saddlestitching line

A Graphic Arts Equipment product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Oct 13, 2008

Express Offset, a Merseyside full-colour brochure and booklet production printer, has invested in a Horizon Stitchliner saddlestitching line from Graphic Arts Equipment (GAE).

JDF-ready, the Stitchliner features fully-automated make-readies and works from flat four-page section, eliminating the need to fold into signatures - saving time and energy.

It runs at speeds of 5,500 books per hour (bph) and has an icon-based LCD touch screen for easy set-up, as well as a job memory storage for job change-overs.

Express Offset's production director, Peter Mottram, said: 'Where before we would have taken two days to finish a job it now takes five or six hours.

'We can take on more work and a wider variety of jobs.

'The change-overs are quick and easy and as well as the regular A4 and A5 work we were doing, we can now offer an A6 option.

'Before, any smaller sizes had to be sent out.' He added: 'Because it works from flat sheets and three-knife trims, it takes work straight from the B2 press.

'We just cut it to size to load the bins, and because it cuts out the need for a separate folding process it is faster.

'That makes the big difference.

'We like to do everything in-house and this has made that more possible.'.
