B and B Press has invested in the SK21m Kirikko card cutter from Graphic Arts Equipment (GAE).

The SK21m features adjustable slitting and cutting positions, optical mark recognition (OMR) as standard and quick set-ups and is compatible with Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh OS platforms.

By following simple layout patterns, with gutters if the cards are designed with image area bleed, cards can be imposed and printed without delay.

The sheets can be cut and trimmed immediately after printing because there is no stack or knife pressure, so there is no set-off on litho print.

Sheets are fed automatically without the need for constant supervision.

The optical mark recognition system ensures the Kirikko SK21m cuts digitally-printed sheets with the same 0.01mm accuracy even though the image position may vary on the sheet.

A positive drive feed and optimised transport train mean up to 150 business cards can be cut in one minute.

Barry Liversidge, the managing director of B and B Press, said: 'We have just completed a GBP1m investment project spend and installed two Sakaurai presses.

'This increased productivity has an impact on the bindery so we looked at ways to reduce the pressure on some machines, such as the guillotine, and the Kirikko was the perfect solution.

'The card cutter handles some of the most time-consuming work, freeing up the guillotine.'.
