One of the largest magazine and catalogue printers in North America has ordered two new gapless web presses and three finishing systems from Goss International.
Brown Printing Company will install the new 2x8 Goss Sunday 3000/32 presses at its Waseca, Minnesota facility.
The company will also add two Goss Universal Binder adhesive binders as part of the expansion project in Waseca and a Goss Pacesetter 1100 saddlestitcher for added capacity at a plant in East Greenville, Pennsylvania (USA).
Jack Denz, technical director at Brown Printing, said: "We have a strong record of success with gapless Sunday presses and with the Pacesetters and Universal Binders.
Adding the wider 2x8 presses and the latest-generation finishing systems reflects our effort to continuously provide our customers with the latest productivity and efficiency advantages." Goss will equip the new four- unit and five-unit gapless presses at Brown printing with Goss Contiweb FD flying pasters, Ecocool dryers with integrated chill rolls and pinless former folders.
Introduced in 2003, the Sunday 3000/32 press was the first single-circumference web press with an eight-pages-across-cylinder configuration for added productivity and efficiency, said Goss.
A single-web Sunday 3000/32 press can produce up to 3.2 million magazine pages per hour, claimed the company.
The two adhesive binding systems at Brown Printing will have 32 hoppers and be equipped with Goss Omniflex controls for selective binding.
The 14-hopper Goss Pacesetter 1100 saddlestitcher will feature a combination of horizontal and vertical hoppers.
Brown Printing currently operates more than 20 web presses and almost 40 finishing systems made by Goss and its predecessor companies at its facilities in Waseca, East Greenville and Woodstock, Illinois.
The list includes nine gapless Sunday presses.
Brown Printing is owned by Gruner and Jahr of Germany and is a subsidiary of Bertelsmann AG, one of the world's largest multimedia companies.
