Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Sep 19, 2006

One of the largest privately owned printers in Europe will install two new Goss Sunday 3000/32 presses at its facility in Tulln (Austria).

One of the largest privately owned printers in Europe will install two new Goss Sunday 3000/32 presses at its facility in Tulln (Austria).

The Goldmann Group specialises in the production of commercial and newspaper products with short production windows.

The gapless 2 x 8 presses will be duplexed and equipped with pinless combination and former folders to produce a variety of signatures from four pages to sixty-four pages.

The two four-unit Goss Sunday 3000/32 presses will have a 590mm cut-off and 1,830mm web width and will be configured to run at 90,000 impressions per hour.

Both presses will be equipped with Goss QPL (Quick Plate Loading) technology, which provides semi-automatic plate loading and fully automatic de-plating of the press, for a 40 per cent reduction in plate changing time compared with standard semi-automatic plate changing, claimed Goss.

The new gapless Sunday presses will also be equipped with Goss Contiweb FD flying pasters with 1,524mm (60-inch) roll capacity.

One press line will be fitted with a PCF-3 pinless combination folder handling two webs or four ribbons, with double parallel fold capacity.

The other press line will be equipped with a PFF-3 pinless former folder handling two webs or eight ribbons.

The presses will also include Goss Ecocool dryers, Omnicon controls and the Goss Web Centre workflow system with the Omni Makeready feature for low waste and fast job change overs, added the company.

Inge Feuchtinger, chief executive officer of The Goldmann Group, said: "We trust in Goss technology.

Since 1980 we have installed a total of 20 Goss, Heidelberg and Harris web offset presses, including Sunday 3000 and Sunday 4000 presses.

Our commitment has always been to invest in the latest technology to achieve maximum productivity and benefits for our customers.

For us, the gapless blanket technology is a tremendous advantage for reducing downtime for blanket changes and achieving higher production speeds on wide presses." Feuchtinger continued: "We chose the 2 x 8 configuration as it is the most effective way to produce high-pagination signatures at high speed, whilst also having the flexibility to run lower volumes cost-effectively.

The two 2 x 8 Sunday 3000/32 presses will replace four existing M1000 B presses and, at the same time, give us an additional 50 per cent production capacity.

This will enable us to shorten the production cycle, giving our customers the advantage of faster output and the ability to accommodate last-minute changes." Goldmann's customers are magazine publishers and retail chains in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Scandinavia.

The company offers a portfolio of pre-press, press and post-press services, applying the latest technology in all areas.

The Goldmann Group has a history of printing dating back to 1900, when Ferdinand Goldmann I, great grandfather of Inge Feuchtinger, started the printing business as a letterpress printer in Lower Austria.

In 1952, Ferdinand Goldmann III began developing the business in to new technology areas with the installation of the company's first offset presses in 1964, followed by web offset in 1968.

In 1987 Goldmann expanded his operation through a joint venture in Hungary with Offset Nyomda of Budapest, and in 1989 Goldmann founded a newspaper division.

Today the group includes Goldmann Druck and Goldmann Zeitungsdruck, Tulln (Austria), Moravia Press (Czech Republic), as well as Offset RT and Apollo (Hungary).
