New Products And Glimpse Of Future From Goss
Goss International announced that it will have a major presence at Drupa 2004 in May and will present future concepts to drive print.
Chris Clement, Goss International's senior product manager, said: "Commercial printers that do not choose the Autoplate system are still interested in improving cycle times for plating with their semi-automatic systems.
We have responded with an enhancement that can bring their plate changing performance closer to what they could achieve with a fully automatic system." With the QPL enhancement, operators are said to only require to hang the lead edge of a new plate.
Cylinder rotation, lock up and cylinder reversing to seat the new plate can then be completed automatically, without an operator present at the printing unit.
The QPL system also allows automatic and simultaneous deplating of multiple units, with operator intervention limited to removing the plates, said the company.
Clement explained: "The QPL system reflects our focus on automating the production process through continuous innovation and according to the requirements of printers." Goss said that it pioneered fully automated plate changing with the introduction of the Autoplate system on its Goss M-600 press in 1995.
With the Autoplate option, operators can load new plates in to cassettes, whilst the press is running and all other functions of the plate change sequence are automated.
Clement added: "We are the overwhelming leader in plate changing automation with more than 1,600 Autoplate printing units running reliably and delivering a competitive advantage for printers around the world.
The new QPL technology now brings several proven Autoplate concepts to semi-automatic systems." Goss's fully-automatic Autoplate technology is available for M-600, Sunday 2000 and Sunday 4000 presses.
Semi-automatic plate changing is available on those presses, as well as Sunday 3000, Mainstream, Universal, Uniliner and Flexible Printing System presses.
