Shaftless Web Press Order For Chinese Newspapers
The Dazhong News Group based in Shandong province, China, has ordered a shaftless Goss Universal 75 press to increase capacity and quality for the publication of its leading newspaper Dazhong Daily.
It has been purchased to allow the publisher to better serve new market requirements in the region as well as increase its current capacity, said Goss.
The Italian company's Luca Martano explained: "The Italian market is very competitive and product differentiation is the key to gaining and maintaining market share.
For us to remain in a position to gain greater market share we needed to invest in a press that would allow us to produce a range of different products that would satisfy our diverse market and enable us to operate with streamlined efficiency.
The Goss Universal 75 press answers all of these requirements." Martano has operated a Goss Universal 45 press with 530mm cut-off since 2002, which was then extended to meet the company's growing requirements in 2005.
Martano continued: "The Universal press has served us well and we are very pleased with its flexibility and high quality performance.
This order was placed in response not only to growing market needs for different format products in the region but also to give us higher print capacity." The Goss Universal 75 press is claimed to combine the flexibility and economy of a single-width press with the throughput and pagination capabilities of a double-width press.
The new press at Martano will be configured as three four-high towers, one 2:3:3 jaw folder and three reel-stands and will also include Goss Level 2 OPCS controls.
With a maximum web-width of 940mm and claimed speeds of up to 70,000 copies per hour the press will be capable of printing 48 full colour tabloid pages in collect mode, added Goss.
Jennifer N'Guyen, Goss International sales manager for Southern Europe, commented: "This is the eighth Universal 75 press to be sold in Italy in the past year, which demonstrates its reputation as a powerful workhorse for a wide range of applications.
The design combines maximum production flexibility with very high output, both of which are essential features for today's publishers." The press will be used to print a number of publications including growing national daily papers.
Installation will begin in early 2007.
