Wenhui Xinmin United Press Group has placed an order for two six-tower shaftless Goss Universal 75 presses for its printing plant in Shanghai (China).

The new presses will be used to print the company's daily titles Wenhui Daily and Xinmin Evening News.

Hu Jing Jun, president of Wenhui Xinmin, commented: "We have had many years experience with Goss presses and are very happy with the quality of print and the service that we receive.

Our requirements for this latest investment were the flexibility to print a variety of formats and sizes, as well as enhanced print quality.

The Universal 75 press model fits this requirement exactly." The new presses at Wenhui Xinmin will each be configured as six four-high Universal 75 towers, eight reelstands and two folders.

They will also be equipped with the EAE control system, including infeed and outfeed system and a color control system.

A blanket washer will be bought at a later date.

Each capable of printing 32 pages broadsheet or 64 pages tabloid, the presses will have a cut-off of 546mm.

Seiji Kato, a vice president of Goss International, said: "The Universal 75 press is a powerful workhorse for a wide range of applications.

The design combines maximum flexibility with very high output, which are essential features for today's publishers." Founded in 1988, the Wenhui Xinmin United Press Group is one of the largest newspaper groups in China.

The group publishes a full range of products, including five daily newspapers, six weeklies and six monthly publications with a combined circulation of 2.8 million.

The publications are printed by 20 printing plants worldwide utilising satellite data transmission to provide timely news coverage to various reader groups in China and numerous overseas Chinese communities in over 10 countries including the USA, UK, Canada, Germany, France and Singapore.
