Chinese Daily Newspaper Adds 8 More Goss Presses

A Goss International product story
Edited by the Printingtalk editorial team Apr 12, 2007

The Nanfang Daily Newspaper Group has bolstered its line-up of Goss presses by ordering eight Magnum 4 presses from the company.

The Goss Magnum 4 presses are desitned for Nanfang's new media centre in the city of Nan Hai near its headquarters in Guangzhou (China).

The eight new presses are to be installed on two production lines.

They will join 13 other Goss presses including Community, Newsliner and Magnum machines and will consist of a total of 22 four-high towers, 30 reelstands and eight folders.

The investment is in response to the growth of the company's flagship title, The Nanfang Daily and the subsequent demand for more pages and colour capacity.

Zhong Guangming, general manager at Nanfang Newspaper Group commented: "The growth of The Nanfang Daily has created a need for increased print capacity.

Following our last purchase of Goss press equipment in 2005, we decided to invest in further units to meet the growing requirement from our customers.

This new press will dramatically improve productivity at our plant and confirms our commitment to the Chinese newspaper printing industry." The Goss Magnum 40,000 copies per hour (cph) press is based on the technology of Goss's Community press.

The single-width 2 x 1 cylinder configuration can produce four broadsheet, eight tabloid or 16 double-parallel pages per revolution, making the press a popular choice for newspaper publishers producing a variety of products, commented Goss.

With a trend towards more colour pages and advertising, it was important that The Nanfang Daily increased its colour capacity to meet reader and advertiser demands.

Xie Kaiyu, print factory director, explained: "The new equipment will significantly improve our colour capability.

With the 12 towers previously purchased we could print 32 pages, with 16 in full colour.

With the new towers we will be able to increase pagination to 48 pages, in full colour - a 50 per cent increase." The press is part of an expansion programme at The Nanfang Daily Newspaper Group.

In addition to its printing plant in Guangzhou, the company is developing a new media centre with advanced production facility in nearby Nan Hai where the new Magnum press will be installed by the end of this year.

The Nanfang Newspaper Group prints the metropolitan daily Nanfang Dushi Baom, as well as over 170 national and regional contract titles, including People's Daily and Economic Daily.

The group has been using Goss presses for many years and the company's facilities are often used as a showroom because of the range and volume of Goss presses in operation, said the company.

Richard Sutis, Goss International's president commented: "We congratulate The Nanfang Daily Newspaper Group on its continued success and are proud to be a part of it.

We look forward to the continuation of this prosperous relationship in the future.".
